With ice out occurring up through Wright County now, I thought I would let
people know about a lake drawdown project that is in effect and could provide
for some good shorebird viewing. The name of the lake is Malardi Lake, and it
is roughly two miles northeast of the city of Montrose. There is a state owned
access on the east side of the lake, and the Area Wildlife Manager unlocked the
gate as of today. Much of the land around the lake is privately owned so
please treat it that way unless you receive permission. Shorebird activity was
a little slow today, but as the lake continues to recede there should be plenty
of exposed mudflats for shorebirds to forage on.
