Hi Birders, This afternoon I drove the minimum maintenance road that follows the north shore of Fremont Lake in Zimmerman . Saw several groups of two to ten Horned Grebes--total 25-30. Also saw groups of Red-breasted Mergansers--total 15-20. Other sightings included two Common Mergansers, four Hooded Mergansers, a Spotted Sandpiper, several Franklin’s Gulls, four Common Loons, a few Buffleheads, and an Osprey perched in a tree by one of the ponds on the north side of the road.
The road is right on the water and all birds were viewed at close range. The road starts about 1.5 miles north of the Hwy 169--County Road 4 stoplight. Turn right (east) off 169 at the Methodist church sign. JoAnn and I had a great time at the Salt Lake Birding Festival this past weekend. Thanks to Ken Larson and Mary Lou Frank for the campsite at Prairie Marsh Farm and for the potluck dinner and pancake breakfast. We met many nice people. The number of birds everywhere was amazing, as was the weather. Good birding, Paul and JoAnn Gunderson ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
