5/2/13 Enjoyed a nice afternoon birding in Scott, Le Sueur & Rice counties.
Here are a few of the birds I observed: Horned Grebe - Scott County - Geis
Lake, Le Sueur county - Tetonka LakeEared Grebe - Rice county - Sakata Lake,
observed from LeRoy Trail, just North of 245th St W.Western Grebe - Rice county
- Cannon Lake - Observed on Cannon Lake near the intersection of CR 12 &
13.Northern Goshawk - Le Sueur county - An Adult Northern Goshawk was observed
at 4:15 pm, along Highway 99, approximately 1/2 mile East of Highway
13.Sandhill Crane - Le Sueur county - A single Sandhill Crane was observed,
along CR 3, 1/4 mile North of CR 166. While I did not observe any numbers of
shorebirds. There are a couple locations that could be good for shorebirds
this season. Here are the two best locations, I found. Le Sueur County - The
Waterville Fish Hatchery ponds are in draw down. I did not see any shorebirds
there today. But they look like they could be good as more shorebirds arrive.
These are located on CR 14, West of the City of Waterville. Rice County - CR
12, at the intersection with CR 72. This area looks good and had a couple
dozen Lesser Yellowlegs and a couple Greater Yellowlegs. Craig
