Birded along the dirt road Zachary Lane just south of 69th Avenue North on the
west side of Eagle Lake which is just south of I-694 and just west of HW 169 in
Maple Grove. Forty-four species in an hour and a half. Limited calls but lots
of wetlands foraging, mid-lake courtships, tree courtships, and mid-lake
breeding of the Red Necked Grebes. Well worth the crawling pace to just stand
and wait for something to move and then to sit on a bench and watch the rafts
of water birds in Eagle Lake. At last, it feels like spring.
