Hi All,

Just a quick note to let you know that the 35 birders who took part in the
Sherburne Refuge field trip early this morning, plus the 30 family participants
who took part in the 10:30 trip, tallied 101 species.  And we endured the cold,
windy day which included a little bit of sleet and SNOW to get that number!

Nothing was in abundance, other than blue and green-winged teal.  We only had 7
species of warblers and 5 species of shorebirds.

The highlight of the day was a Henslow's sparrow, which most folks didn't get
to see, because it only sang for about an hour early this morning.  The bird
was at the beginning of the Blue Hill Trail, singing from a small shrub in the
prairie area, between the parking lot and the shrubby/wooded start of the trail.

Thanks to all of you who (endured) the trip today!  The refuge certainly didn't
"shine" for you, so I hope you'll come back another day when the birds aren't
all hunkered down!
