May 14, 20137:00 am - 11:30 am While leading a walk at the Rapids Lake unit 
this morning, we observed many of the birds previously posted by John.  Plus a 
number of additional species.  We hiked the small loop trail, to the South of 
the visitor center.  Followed by a hike to the spillway, which is about 2 miles 
North of the visitor center.  Here are a few of the additional species our 
group observed: American White PelicanYellow-throated VireoBlue-gray 
GnatcatcherVeeryAmerican Pipit - 40 plus were observed along the freshly burned 
field, just West of the visitor center along the entrance road.  These were 
observed at 6:30 am and were no longer present when I left the area at 11:30 
pm.Clay-colored SparrowField SparrowLark Sparrow - These appear to be nesting 
near the visitor center again this year.White-throated SparrowIndigo Bunting
