Went on a short walk on the dirt path adjacent to the boardwalk of the Mogg
Trail in Roseville this noon. The bird of the day was the common yellow
throat - they were everywhere! (none of them were singing) Saw at least 4
Baltimore orioles, 2 magnolia warblers, one blackpoll, one yellow. Not a
single yellow rump. The majority of the boardwalk is closed since it is
under water. I walked on part of the open section but other than a few red
wings and a swamp sparrow, it remains pretty birdless. Many years ago the
city for some unknown reason dredged the whole area and created a few deeper
pools. Now most of the cattails have been replaced by buckthorn and scrub
willow and the pools are shallow and scummy. Such a shame, it used to be a
great bird place until they ruined it. The woods around the boardwalk
usually have some nice birds but the boardwalk is generally a bust.

For those unfamiliar with the area, the Mogg Trail is right next to the
Wildlife Rehab Center on Dale Street, between Hwy 36 and County Road C.
