Friday Fieldtrips revealed over 120 species - the migration is here! From blackburnian to canada to magnolia and beyond - warblers were a popular site with 20 species seen so far. And with little leaf out, great viewing this weekend. A red-shouldered hawk at Maplewood State Park and great views of a broad-winged hawk were raptor highlights. Despite the morning drizzle an array of warblers were seen again today. The festival participants also saw plenty of sparrows: Savannah, LeConte's, Lincoln, Swamp, Harris, White-crowned, White-throated, Chipping, Song, and a bonus Nelson's at Tamarac Refuge. Bobolink, indigo bunting, rose-breasted grosbeaks and scarlet tanagers are always a treat. So far 159 species have been seen this weekend with trips to Itasca and an overnight trip to Canada on Sunday. A final list will be posted on www.visitdetroitlakes.com .
