Subject: [mou-net] Need Binocular Advice

Hi Fellow Birders,

A friend and I are wanting to upgrade our vintage glass for some modern ones. I
am only interested in 10 X 50, he is more flexible.
The problem we are finding is that we cannot find a retail store that has any
in the $400 - $800 range. I do not really want to go by just reviews as I
already have a pair of 10X50 Yokosho porro prisms, Japan 1960's they are nice
but close focus is around 40'. I want to try a pair in comparison to my vintage
ones before I spend many hundreds to upgrade.

Does anyone have a suggestion of a somewhat local retailer? Nothing at Cabelas
or National Camera. I heard Eagle Optics is great but a long haul as we both
live in the Mpls metro.

My friend is also interested in a scope. I purchased an Alpen scope and am very
happy with it. Has anyone had any experience with Alpen's Teton binoculars? The
Rainiers they make are out of my price range.

Thanks, Peter Schmidt
