I birded Sibley County this morning and was able to find the Red-headed
Woodpecker pair that Doug Kieser reported at the 371st Ave and 238 St
location. They were feeding young in a nest hole in the dead tree just to
the east of the intersection.

At the flooded field at the CR12/240th intersection (just east of the
woodpecker spot) the Short-billed Dowitcher Doug reported was gone but there
was a Stilt Sandpiper along with several Least Sandpipers.

In the southeast corner of the county I located a pair of Sandhill Cranes
(rare in the summer season) that were feeding/resting in an open field on a
zig-zag road going east off of CR18. From the intersection of MN93/US169
near LeSueur go west on CR8 a short distance to CR18 and go north and take
the first road to the right (east). The birds were on the second east-west
stretch just after turning back east. I looked for a colt but was not able
to find any (unless it was hidden by the one bird that was resting on the
ground). I went by the spot a couple of hours later but was not able to
relocate the cranes at that time.
