8/2/13 Mark Junghans and I, spent some time birding in Western Minnesota, over the last couple days. The most interesting location was the North Ottawa Impoundment in Grant county. Grant county North Ottawa Impoundment This impoundment, is located SE of the town of Tintah, along the Traverse and Grant county line. The best location for shorebirds was at the intersection of 340th Ave and 260th Street. Note that 250th Street which runs through the middle of the impoundment was flooded. Here are some of the species we observed there on Friday morning. Semipalmated Plover Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Hudsonian Godwit Marbled Godwit Semipalmated Sandpiper Least Sandpiper Pectoral Sandpiper Stilt Sandpiper Short-billed Dowitcher Wilson's Snipe Spotted Sandpiper, Solitary Sandpiper and Baird's Sandpipers were also observed at various other flooded fields in the area. Additionally we observed a single Tennessee Warbler in a wood lot just East of the impoundment.
