Hi All,

There was a nice collection of the common raptors and a few migrant songbirds
on the Prairie's Edge Wildlife Drive today.  Thrashers, catbirds and a variety
of sparrows were joined by chestnut-sided, black and white, mourning, yellow,
American redstart and common yellowthroat warblers.  A red-eyed vireo was
singing in the woodland area.  A 350 lb. black bear was also in the woodland
area early on Monday morning, but we've had no reports since then.

There is still a smattering of shorebirds on both Stickney and Nelson Pools on
the mudflats. Greater and lesser yellowlegs, least, solitary and pectoral
sandpipers, as well as a single stilt sandpiper were noted, along with
semipalmated plover.  Many snipe are in these areas too.  A merlin was buzzing
the shorebirds today on Stickney Pool - providing a show for some visitors from
Holland!

Greg Feinberg will be leading a birding tour at Sherburne on Saturday,
September 7th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  The group will meet at Refuge
Headquarters on CR 9, and then hatch a plan on where to bird.  Please
pre-register for this tour by emailing [email protected], or calling 763/
389-3323 ext. 13.

Have a great, safe, birdy weekend!
