It seems like it has been an odd fall migration, at least here in The Cities.
I spent nearly 3 weeks camping up off the Arrowhead and the migrants there were fabulous. Large flocks of birds moving through in the waves I've become accustomed to up there. One fun new thing that I learned is Palm Warblers move around in huge flocks in the fall - and flocks only of Palm Warblers. It was great to see. The 1st White-throateds and juncos arrived in camp about 5 days before I left for home. Typically, they'd then arrive here a week to 10-days later. I was shocked to see White-throateds in our Afton yard the next day. Juncos seemed to have arrived within that 10-day window. The kinglets also seemed to have moved through more quickly than normal. At the same time, at WRC we've admitted very few warblers - I bet less than 2 dozen which is pretty odd. My guess is that with all the nice weather we had the birds just skipped over the area. The few migrants I've seen here in the Cities have been in the very early morning. I'm hoping shorebird migration will be a bit better! - Tami in Afton ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
