Le Sueur County Birding Day
Field Trip Report
Friday - 10/25/13
 
We birded the Southern portion of the county, starting from St. Peter and 
heading over to Waterville and back.
 
Here are some of the species we observed on the trip:
 
Waterfowl - We observed ten species of Waterfowl, with the highlight being a 
flock of several hundred Redheads on Lake Henry.
Pied-billed Grebe - This species was observed on most of the lakes we visited.
Horned Grebe - One was observed from the boat landing on the West side of Lake 
Washington.
Western Grebe - One was observed from the Waterville Fish Hatchery on Tetonka 
Lake.
Rough-legged Hawk
American Coot - 1000s of these were observed on the many lakes we visited.
Pileated Woodpecker
Northern Shrike - One was observed along CR 14, about a mile East of the 
intersection of CR 11 and CR 14.
Horned Lark
Eastern Bluebird - Hundreds of Eastern Bluebirds were observed in small flocks 
in numerous locations throughout the area we visited.
American Robin
American Pipit - Several were observed in a field along CR 148, West of the 
town of Cleveland.
Lapland Longspur - A flock of about 50 were observed flying over the same field 
were we observed the American Pipit.
Yellow-rumped Warbler
American Tree Sparrow - Observed at Lake Washington County park.
Dark-eyed Junco
Meadowlark Species
