I arrived at Sax-Zim Bog a little before sunrise while leading a trip, and
was treated to some really cool birds throughout the day. The first two
bird species of the day were Snow Buntings and a Ruffed Grouse, both seen
before sunrise in the headlights along McDavitt. We struck out with owls
even wtih thorough scanning. Highlights included a female Black-backed
Woodpecker, several Rough-legged Hawks, Black-billed Magpies, Northern
Shrikes and others!

Before the day came to a close, we visited Canal Park, where we came across
two adult Thayer's Gulls, one sub-adult Thayer's Gull and one 1st-cycle
Great Black-backed Gull.
