When I Got home I saw that my Facebook page was filled with "Amazon Kingfisher
seen at Rio Grande Birding Festival in Harlingen, Texas"  I am sure those at
the festival are very excited to see a 2nd North American record but to be real
honest I would not give up this day even for a Amazon Kingfisher.

Spent a few hours observing gulls at the Superior Entry Way and Canal Park with
Peder Svingen, Ted Keyel, Jan & Larry Kraemer and Robbye Johnson.

Highlights at Superior Entry Way:

- 1 First cycle Great Black-backed Gull ( Robbye & Ted ) Seen on the MN side.

- 1 2nd cycle Great Black-backed Gull ( Robbye & Ted found one before my
arrival )
- 1 First cycle Lesser Black-backed Gull ( Peder Svingen discovered the gull )
- 1 First cycle Iceland Gull ( Robbye & Ted discovered the gull. Actively
coming to our chumming )
- 1 First cycle Thayer's Gull
- 2 Third cycle Thayer's Gull
- 1 Adult Thayer's Gull
- 1 First cycle Glaucous Gull ( I spotted the gull coming off the lake and
landing on MN side of the entry )
- 3 Winter adult Bonaparte's Gulls landed in the middle of the entry ( Peder
Svingen spotted them while we were chumming)
- 500+ Herring Gulls
- 50+ Ring-billed Gulls

* Western Grebe that was reported here 2 weeks ago by Karl Bardon is still
actively feeding in the entry way.

Yesterday I visited the entry way and saw 6 species of gulls standing on the
Minnesota side of the entry way.  The highlight of the 6 species of gulls was a
adult Lesser Black-backed Gull.  I believe there are at least 2 first cycles, 2
third cycles and 1 2nd cycle and one adult Lesser Black-backed Gulls in the
Duluth / Superior area.

Canal Park:
Highlights:
-  3 adult Thayer's Gulls
-  3 third cycle Thayer's Gulls
-  1 second cycle Thayer's Gull

-  3 first cycle Thayer's Gulls
-  Adult Glaucous Gull was spotted by Jan Kraemer.

I know I know gulls, gulls and more gulls is all we are reporting up here.
Well there is a strong front coming Monday and hopefully that will be bring
more birds down to us.  ( waterfowl, western strays or yes a Mew Gull ) Ha!

Good Birding

Mike
