Hi All—

Erika and I had no trouble finding five Cackling Geese at Carleton
College’s Lyman Lakes.  We noted the report of these geese on Birdseye, the
birding finding app for the iPhone or iPad. The birds apparently were first
reported by Gerald Hoekstra to eBird.

One photo I took for comparative purposes of a Cackling Goose and a Canada
Goose also proved to be interesting due to the Canada’s white forehead.
 This pattern occasionally occurs in Canada/Cackling geese and is
illustrated in Sibley.  The photo is posted on my blog this morning:
