With a break in the cold weather, Jenni Webster, Interpretive Naturalist,
Minnesota Interstate State Park, and I were able to conduct a methodical survey
of Spring Creek in Wild River State Park today. To our delight, we found 3
over-wintering Wilson's Snipes. Spring Creek is a short, spring-fed stream
that empties into the St. Croix River. Parts of the stream stay ice-free
during the winter due to the constant temperature of the water source. All the
birds appeared to be in good physical condition today. I reported 3
over-wintering snipes in this stream last winter.
