While birding in Jackson, Martin and Watonwan counties today, with Herb 
Dingmann, Ron Erpelding and Mark Junghans.  We enjoyed some interesting birds, 
including two potential first county records for Jackson County. Here are a few 
of the species we encountered today.
 
Martin County
Common Goldeneye and Ruddy Duck in with a large flock of Mallards on Sisseton 
Lake.
Rough-legged Hawk
Northern Shrike
Brown Creeper - 4 - Cedar Lake county Park
 
Jackson County
Northern Goshawk - Pletz-Kliema WMA - North of the intersection of 440th Ave 
and 740th Street.  Mark observed this potential first county record, immature 
Northern Goshawk in the Red Cedar stand, in the middle of the WMA.  The bird 
was observed for about 10 more minutes and remained in the grove of Cedars when 
we departed.
Eurasian Collared-Dove - 16 observed in the city of Lakefield.   
Horned Lark - These were observed in 1/2 a dozen locations in the county. 
Townsend Solitaire - NE corner of the intersection of 850 th St & 510 th Ave.  
Herb first spotted the bird in a deciduous tree about 150 feet East of 510th 
Ave. and the bird was later observed in some Red Cedars, about 20 feet from the 
road.

Red-winged Blackbird
Rusty Blackbird
Common Grackle - The Blackbirds and Grackle were observed along 500th Ave, 
about 1/2 mile South of 860th Street.
 
Watonwan County
Eastern Screech Owl - Eagle's Nest County Park - In the main parking lot.
