Today My daughter and I went "in search of" the Snowy that has been spotted
in Maple Grove. At about 2:00pm we saw it sitting on a light post right
off Hemlock Lane just north of Elm Creek Blvd., about a block away from
Benihana. It then flew over across the highway from Costco. Then it flew
across the gravel pits. We drove up to Weaver Lake Road and around the new
development where one had been spotted earlier. Nothing. So we went back
down by the gravel pits. We went East on 85th Ave (130) and pulled into
the "driveway" (Valley Forge Lane) outside of Barton Gravel. We did not go
past any gate, no trespassing signs all over. We spotted the owl on top of
the high building (sorry i don't know what that building is). We watched it
for about 15 minutes, until it flew back across toward Elm Creek Blvd.
Again. We drove over there and saw it flying back toward that high
building. When we got back to the other side, we lost it. Ran into
another couple looking, but they couldn't find it either. We must've
followed it around from afar for 90 minutes

This individual bird was heavily barred. I didn't get any good shots, I
don't have the "heavy" camera equipment like others do. When I got home
and cropped in my shots, I can definitely see it was indeed, a Snowy,
either female or juvenile. I didn't realize they were such large birds!
No shots, but nonetheless, a lifer for my daughter and I, and we are very
excited!

Sheila
