My boyfriend and I explored the Snowy Owl hotspot just east of Vermillion from 3:30-5:00pm today. The two Snowy Owls we observed both had adult female/juvenal-type plumage.
Bird #1 was seen twice on the north side of Northfield Blvd (CR-47) about 1/8 and 1/4 miles west of Hogan Avenue at 4:00pm and 5:00pm, respectively. Both times it was perched on an irrigation structure. The second time it was about 100 feet from the road. Bird #2 was observed about 1/4 mile east of Hogan Road and 1/4 mile north of 180th Street. It, too, was perched on an irrigation structure. We estimate that 10+ cars were those of birders. I spoke with a lady earlier in the afternoon, saying that there was at least one owl spotted in the morning, but generally the birds were less detectable today. Good birdin'!
