At around noon today, I made an unplanned trip without scope to the Vermillion area , and enjoyed seeing an almost pure white Snowy Owl, viewing it on the north side of 180th St. about 1/4 mi. west of Emery Ave.
I viewed it with help of birder friends, who informed me of the location when I met them on Emery Ave. A birder at the site with his friend had a telescope (normally used for astronomy). The owl was back a good distance in a snow-covered stubble cornfield, sleeping on and off, so looked at first like a large clump of snow, moving a bit occasionally, but staying in the same spot. It was easy to see through binoculars, but spectacular to see through the scope from a distance that didn't disturb the owl. The owner of the telescope also took several photos through it on my iPhone, which turned our very well! Many thanks to all those birders!
