Just sighted in passing from the car window this morning along Hwy. 133,
about 4.5 miles in from Route 53. I was headed east, bound for Duluth and
the owl was on the driver side quite close to the road, still a bit west
of the bridge with the concrete abutments.

Typical of roadside owls and hawks, its eyes tracked the observer's eyes.
This may be illusion on my part, since the vehicle itself would attract the
owl to watch as it passes, but a previous experience out the window of a
taxiing jet plane where a snowy sat on a cell phone tower or similar
structure persuaded me that the owl's keen eyesight leads it to its
observer, eyes meeting eyes.
