Hello, For the first time ever we have reached our max of participants of 159 by Feb 1. We are now starting a waiting list where as of today we have 8 people on the waiting list.
Of the 159 participants only 30 or so are previous attendees of the festival. We have birders coming from all over the United States with 26 states represented and one birder from the UK. We broaden our vendors with Leica jumping on board this year - thanks to David La Puma. I also have plenty of leaders who are coming from Minnesota, Wisconsin and other places to help lead festival trips. Its amazing how fast we filled up with virtually no advertising on our part. Word of mouth and the NY Times Article floating around on the internet has a lot to do with our success. Sax-Zim Bog is indeed the premier hot spot for birders to visit each winter and its really cool to see so many people each day driving around viewing the birds in the bog. A huge plus is Sparky Stensaas and Friends of Sax-Zim Bog organization creating the Welcome Center on Owl Avenue.
