A male HARLEQUIN DUCK was found by Erik Bruhnke and others on the 9th on the north side of the Silver Bay marina. Two LONG-TAILED DUCKS were seen at Agate Bay in Two Harbors on the 2nd. A flock of six BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was seen on the 9th along MN Highway 61 in Tofte. BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS are still being seen in Ely, although I don't have specific locations. A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was seen on the 11th in the Lakeside neighborhood at 50th Avenue East and Oakley Street. Mike Hendrickson saw two THAYERÂ’S GULLS and a GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL on the 12th at Canal Park in Duluth. A SNOWY OWL has been present for several weeks at the ball fields along the Riley Road west of Jean-Duluth Road, and another has been seen in the Duluth harbor near the base of the Blatnik Bridge and along I-35 in west Duluth. Butch Ukura saw a NORTHERN HAWK OWL in Aitkin County on the 10th along CR 18, one mile east of US Highway 169. NORTHERN HAWK OWLS and GREAT GRAY OWLS continue to be seen at several locations in the Sax-Zim Bog. A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen on the 10th along the McDavitt Road (CR 213), 2.5 miles north of the Sax Road (CR 28). BOREAL CHICKADEES are being seen at the Admiral Road feeders, about 3.5 miles north of the Cranberry Road. The next scheduled update of this report will be on January 23rd.
