Randy Knott of Thief River Falls contacted me this evening to report that
he spotted a Northern Hawk-owl on December 1st 2013 in Sanders Twp, Section
20.

He was in his deer stand when he spotted a Blue Jay harassing the owl. It
was within sight for about an hour, between 8:00 and 9:00 am.

He said because he was able to watch for a long period of time combined
with the fact that at one point it was within 10 feet of him, Randy was
easily able to ID it when he got back to the house. The Blue Jay harassed
the owl from about 100 feet above the treetops or so. Randy thought the Jay
didn't like being that exposed, because he left him alone after that.
