I went up to the Bog today with two friends. We stopped at the Welcome center
and were very welcomed indeed. The building is mostly insulated now and was
quite warm on a very cold day. We did not see any Great Grays or black backed
woodpeckers but we looked in the areas where they have been seen. We also did
not see any pine or evening grosbeaks but I understand there were some seen
across from a bar in the meadowlands but we went there later in the day and did
not see any. One of the places that we went were to some private feeders on CR
444 north of zim road and while we mostly saw chickadees and Blue jays and gold
finches I am happy to report that I saw a single black billed magpie. The
first I’ve seen in years. I even got a photo of it. Here is the link
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ronsthoughts/ we also saw a single gray jay south
of the meadowlands on CR 47. We saw a bunch of goats someone is keeping down
there. We saw a nice northern hawk owl on Owl Ave. Boreal Chicadees at the
Admiral ave feeder a fair amount of Ravens and deer. No moose though we met a
woman who saw one up there the other day. Not a great day but not too bad for
us on a very frigid day.
