*Thursday 1/30*
*Sax-Zim Bog Highlights*

-Great Gray Owl on the Admiral Road just south of the Admiral Rd feeders.

- 2 Snowy Owls:  1.  Imm male Snowy Owl on CR 27 and Greenfield Rd  2. Imm
male on CR 7 just west of Dibble Rd.  (north of Byrne's Greenhouse)

- Northern Hawk Owl:  Owl Avenue south of Arkola Rd.

- Boreal Chickadee, Pine Grosbeak and Evening Grosbeak at the feeding
stations.
1. CR 444 Feeding Station (Please donate $$ at the donation box to help the
homeowner continue to purchase sunflower seeds.  Take CR 27 (Zim RD) west
to Hwy 5 to CR 444.  Take a right on CR 444 to first house on right.  She
welcomes birders to view her feeders.  Evening Grosbeaks can be found here.
2. Pine Grosbeaks ( 24+ )  Loretta's Bird Feeding Station on the Kelsey
Whiteface Rd.  Take CR 7 to Kelsey Whiteface RD and drive 1/5 mile and look
for sign on right side.  You will have to walk the snow path to view the
feeders.  Please donate $$ at the donation box to keep these feeders
going.
3. Admiral Rd feeders have 3 Boreal Chickadees and lots of Gray Jays.


*Friday 1/31*
*Lake County / Ely / Winton Highlights*

- (5) Spruce Grouse: 3 female Spruce Grouse about 1.5 miles north of the
Sand River on Lake County Road 2.  1 male Spruce Grouse on Hwy. 1 at mile
post 303.  1 male Spruce Grouse at mile post 301.

New feeder birders are welcome to visit!  Blue Heron Bed & Breakfast.  They
have Evening and Pine Grosbeaks at the feeders.  Directions:  Take Hwy 169
NE out of Ely and take a right on CR 16 Kawishiwi Trail for a few miles.
Watch for Blue Heron sign along the road and take entrance to Bed &
Breakfast.  We talked to the owners and they would love to share the
feeders with visiting birders.  They probably will invite you inside for
coffee and tea!  Great folks!

- Winton we saw more Evening & Pine Grosbeaks along the northern section of
Main Street.

* Got a report that Heidi Pinkerton found a Northern Saw-whet Owl along
McDavitt Rd near the white cabin with flag pole last night.  Good sighting
for the bog!


*Feb 1 (Today)*
*Sax-Zim Bog*

3 Great Gray Owls seen today + two owls reported to me today.  1. Great
Gray Owl along McDavitt Rd at the northern end of the Black Spruce/Tamarack
bog or east of the old north logging road.  2. Great Gray Owl east of white
cabin north of Black Spruce / Tamarack Bog.  3. Great Gray Owl along CR 27
(Zim Rd) just east of Whiteface River bridge. 4. Great Gray Owl north of
the Admiral Rd feeders on the Admiral Rd  5. Great Gray Owl south of the
Admiral Rd feeders on the Admiral Rd.

3 Snowy Owls seen today in the bog!  1. Imm. male on CR 27 (Zim Rd &
Greenfield Rd)  1. Imm. male on CR 7 west of Dibble Rd and a imm. female
Snowy Owl in the same location.

2 Northern Hawk Owls seen today in the bog. 1. Owl Avenue south of Arkola
Rd and another Hawk Owl on CR 7 west of Dibble Rd which is north of the
greenhouse.

*Proctor / Saginaw Area.*

A Immature male Snowy Owl was found today by Tim Glacklin this afternoon
along the Midway Rd and Old Midway Rd intersection on one of the power
poles.  I was coming down Midway Rd heading home from guiding and I was
able to relocate the owl in the same area.  This area is just north of the
intersection of Hwy 2 and Midway Rd.

So all together I saw 4 Snowy Owls, 3 Great Gray Owls and 2 Northern Hawk
Owls in 6 hours!  Great day for observing owls.
