2/8/14 While birding in Southern Minnesota the last couple days, Ron Erpelding and I observed the following species. 2/6/14 Golden Eagle - Houston County - 4:00 pm - CR 5 & Peyton Valley Road. Two Golden Eagles were observed roosting along the top of the bluff South of CR 5. Eurasian Collared-Dove - Winona County - One Eurasian Collared-Dove was bird observed in the town of Lewiston. Snowy Owl Wabasha County - 9:50 am - 375th Avenue, 1/4 mile South of CR 16. We observed a juvenile female Snowy Owl sitting next to a fence line on the West side of 375th Avenue about 100 yards from the road. Winona County - 1:00 pm - Cemetery Road, about 1/3 of a mile North of CR 18. - We observed an adult male Snowy Owl, sitting in a field about 100 yards from Cemetery Road. Horned Lark - Small flocks of Horned Larks were observed in Goodhue, Wabasha, Winona, Houston and Fillmore counties. Tufted Titmouse - Houston County - One was observed along the Sather Valley Road, in Northern Houston county. 2/7/14 Snowy Owl Jackson County - 7:56 - 8:10 am - 930th Street, .4 miles East of CR 21 (540th Ave). We observed an adult female Snowy Owl, sitting in a field on the North side of 930th street. The bird was about 200 yards North of 930th street. Sibley County - 1:50 - 2:05 pm - 310 St, .8 miles West of CR 9 (411 Ave). We observed an adult male Snowy Owl, sitting in a field on the South side of 310 St. The bird was about 300 yards South of 310 street. Freeborn county - 5:31 - 5:40 pm - 685th Ave (CR 67), . 45 miles North of 310th Street. We observed an a juvenile Female sitting on top of a power pole on the West side of 685th Ave. Horned Lark - We observed flocks of Horned Larks in Cottonwood, Redwood, Renville, Sibley and Freeborn counties. Red-breasted Nuthatch - Cottonwood County - One was observed at Lakeview cemetery in the town of Windom. Cedar Waxwing - Cottonwood County - 300+ were observed at Lakeview cemetery in the town of Windom. Snow Bunting - Flocks of Snow Buntings were observed in Jackson, Sibley and Freeborn Counties. Purple Finch - Cottonwood County - 14 Purple Finches were observed at the Lakeview cemetery in the town of Windom.
