Shortly after noon today (Saturday) as I was driving south on I-494 in Eden
Prairie, I spotted a pure white bird flying over a marsh on the west side
of the road. As it flared its tail to land in a tree by the road it
flashed its pale rosy tail and confirmed my ID of a Red-tailed Hawk. I
wonder if this is the same awesome white hawk that has frequented this area
in the last couple of winters.

The hawk reminded me to check out the nests on the west side of the highway
for a Great Horned Owl that I had glimpsed on previous occasions over the
last month on a small nest along the road, south of the larger Bald Eagle
nest perhaps a couple of hundred yards to the north. I got a clear look at
this owl sitting on the nest. Interestingly, while I can easily find the
nest driving southbound, I can not located it when driving northbound. I
saw the owl on this nest last year. For the photographers: this nest is
not viewable except from the highway. And, not safely viewable at less
than the speed limit.
