Hi Birders,
FOY for yard list--Big Lake Township, Sherburne County
4/21 Field Sparrow
4/20 Eastern Meadowlark
4/19 White-throated Sparrow, Tree Swallow, American Kestrel
Past few days--Gray-cheeked Thrush, Hermit Thrush, and a lone Common
Raven
Our 1 ft snowfall really stacked up the Fox Sparrows. We shoveled down
to the grass below our feeders to give them access
to the food on the ground. We had an approx. 5 x 10 foot area for them
to feed. At one point I counted 17 sparrows in that area. Tom
Malone commented that they don't "play" well together. I agree--they must use a
large amount of the seed energy fighting over the food. We usually view
five to fifteen Fox Sparrows per year during the migration. This spring it must
have been scores or a hundred over a period of a week
For the past one to two weeks we have had Yellow-rumped Warblers, both
Kinglets, and Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers drinking
sap from our leaky Sugar Maple.
We now have 67 species on our 2014 yard list. That's ten more than our
2013 yard list at this time last year.
Carlos Avery WMA--JoAnn and I birded Carlos Avery WMA on Easter Sunday. 54
species between our place and CAWMA.
