Yesterday our merry band of 6 birders found an unprecedented number
of 5 American Bitterns in Steele County while doing our annual Big
Day county count. 3 were seen and the other 2 were heard.
2 at Rice Lake State Park - one heard from the boat landing and the
other seen at the first marsh on the road going into the primitive
camping area.
2 seen at the Straight River Marsh on County Road 45 south of Owatonna.
1 heard at the wetlands in Ellendale, MN, about 4 blocks north off of
Main Street.
