Yesterday afternoon, about 4:15, I had a Great Egret drop in my field and p=
onds. The resident pair of Canada Geese were none too happy though and hara=
ssed the bird. I did not see it later in the evening or this morning. This =
is only the second time I have seen one on my property.

Everything is gone now except for one Dunlin and three Semipalmated Plovers,=
all very far away.

I was walking to the park this morning with my two girls and had my binocul=

of birds foraging on the ground to the right of me. Most of the flock was T=
ennessee Warblers but much to my delight the was a brilliant Yellow-throate=
d Warbler foraging with them. The bird was only about 10 feet away so I was=
able to identify it instantly but of course I checked my Sibley Guide to B=
irds of the East that I had with me just to make sure. The warbler only had=
bright yellow on the neck and no-where else=2C it had a grayish back and t=
wo distinct wing-bars=2C it had a triangular black facial pattern that exte=
nded to the sides of its throat and had a longish bill.=20
The bird was on the north side of the house on the southwestern corner of 4=
1st and Nicollet=2C across the street from MLK park. I saw the bird at arou=
nd 11:15am and looked again at 1:45pm but did not relocate it. There are a =
lot of tall trees in the area and a lot of small birds flying around so it =
will be tricky to re-find but I would be surprised if it totally left.
Always remember to bring your binoculars with you in May in Minnesota=2C yo=

Also present at the location of the Yellow-throated Warbler found by Jason
were a Bay-breasted Warbler and a Gray-cheeked Thrush. Both warblers spent
most of their time feeding on the sidewalks and street, along with 3 or more
Tennessees.

I posted this in the Facebook group, but I thought I'd share this exciting
visitor to my backyard this afternoon! It's only the second time I've seen
one here, the first time was several years ago.

Subject: Least Bittern and Prothonotary Warblers, Hok-si-la Park, Lake City

Leslie McInenly, Paul Smithson and I saw 103 species today at Hok-si-la
Park in Lake City and Frontenac State Park (Goodhue County), including 22
species of warblers. Best finds included a Least Bittern flushed from wet
grass along the path that goes south from the boat landing parking lot on
the north side of Hok-si-La Park (observed for 10 minutes from 40 feet
away), plus male and female Prothonotary Warblers to the west of the same
path. Two other Prothonotary Warblers singing elsewhere in Hok-si-la; also
a late Bonaparte's Gull, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Philadelphia Vireo, 2
male Bay-breasted Warblers, 2 Mourning Warblers. Remarkable numbers (many
dozens) of Am. Redstarts, Yellow, and Yellow-rumped Warblers; 8+ Canada
Warblers, 10+ Wilson's Warblers. Orchard Oriole and 2 Palm Warblers at
Frontenac State Park.
