Greetings, After a successful visit to Faribault Co. this morning to see the Wood Stork, the family and I went on a hike at Afton State Park from @1100AM-300PM. Here are the avian highlights:
Hooded Warbler - single male singing on the east hillside, just north of the northernmost parking lot (as previously described). Tufted Titmouse - single male singing, down the hill @0.5 miles north and a little bit east of the same parking lot - pretty close to the park border. Prothonotary Warbler (2) - two countersinging males along the flooded St. Croix river, south of the bridge that crosses near the Trout Brook/St. Croix "confluence". Summer Tanager(2?) - male singing and calling, close by the previously reported location from May 14(?), on the southern end of the Trout Brook Loop. The bird made a few loops from there all the way to about halfway up the hillside to the intersection of this trail and the Prairie Loop trail. Also, MAY have heard another singing male outside the park boundary across Hwy. 21 (heard from extreme western edge of Trout Brook Loop trail) - but not sure, it was pretty far out and there were lots of cars. Orchard Oriole - singing male, southeast corner of the Prairie Loop trail. Thanks to others that previously posted/described most of these bird locations. Good birding!
