Nature Advocates
As a fan of the "Nature" programs on PBS, I think "Himalayas" (2011) is one of the best. It will be broadcast again this Sunday night 12/28 in the metro area from 7:00 - 8:00 on channel 2 -- Life. Not sure about Greater MN, but look for it. Among birds featured are - Bar Headed Geese (flying over the Himalayas) - Black-Necked Crane - Sarus Crane - Golden Eagles (and predating migrating Demoiselle Crane) - Demoiselle Crane - Temninck's Tragopan (check your pulse if you aren't shocked by the male's display) Snow Leopards are featured in different mountain habitats (and chasing a Markhor goat down a steep slope into river); big Golden Takin goats; Tibetan Wolves, Tibetan Fox (with pika prey); Tibetan Brown Bear; Red Pandas; Yunnan Snub-nosed Monkey (lichen eaters). There is one unidentified sunbird in Bhutan? that some of you might name (DCahlander). All the "Nature" shows are available online at pbs.org also. A celebration of biodiversity, and wonder and beauty in nature in one part of this beautiful planet. Happy New Year and may you find birds, or they find you even if you are not looking.
