Sharon and I watched a flock of about 20 redpolls today (January 20)
at the boat launch at Agate Bay in Two Harbors, and four of them were
Hoary Redpolls. Three were "classic" frosty white males and one was
a female. All four had completely unstreaked undertail coverts and
noticeably stubby bills compared to the Common Redpolls. We were
able to watch them feeding in tansies from 20-30 feet away for about
15 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera.
