Birders,I have recently made the acquaintance of one of the pioneers of DNA
research in ornithology, Jon Ahlquist. Jon was the co-developer (with Charles
Sibley) of the Sibley–Ahlquist taxonomy of birds, and co-author of the book,
Phylogeny and Classification of the Birds: A Study in Molecular Evolution.Jon
is elderly and presently struggling with some serious health problems. Due to
some resultant needs, Jon has decided to make available to interested parties
in the birding/ornithological community, several of his pieces of original bird
art. Jon has painted for several decades, producing a small number of works for
individual clients who would see his works in the Bird Room and his office at
Yale University. Most of his works are in private collections in the US, but
a few have been sold to individuals in Belfast, Northern Ireland; Edinburgh,
Scotland; Jyväskylä, Finland; and Johannesburg, RSA.If you are interested in
pursuing this further, please contact me off-list and I will provide you Jon’s
contact information.Thanks.Bates EstabrooksTennessee
