New yard bird this week, Horned Lark in veggie garden!
Saw-whet owl has been calling on and off this past week and first Ruffed Grouse
heard drummingTuesday evening. After plowing thru 150 pounds of Niger Thistle
the hoards of Redpoll and most Pine Siskin have departed.

Last Sunday I drove around Clearwater county looking for signs of Spring...
3 Rough-legged Hawk (one dark morph)
4 Bald Eagle
1 American Kestrel
1 Northern Harrier
1 Short-eared Owl
1 Eastern Bluebird
A couple hundred Trumpeter Swan and many Canada Geese (most appeared to be
Richardson's or Lesser-no scope this trip)
Mallard
Northern Pintail
Waterfowl were seen at the rice paddies north of Clearbrook.
Magpie numbers are strong again this spring and they are in peak plumage right
now. Sometimes have up to seven feeding on my deer carcass stations at one time.
Regular evening visits from my local pair of Grey Fox make for better than TV
entertainment!
