Yesterday Connie Jo and I were at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. After an appointment we were sitting by the large bank of windows on the 15th floor of the Gonda Building, looking at the pigeons flying around and wondering where the Peregrine Falcons might be. Within a few minutes, a falcon flew by the window perhaps 20 yards away. It swooped up and landed on the corner of the building above us and to the left, where it sat in view. A second falcon (presumably the male) followed in a few seconds, flying back and forth with something like a small bird in its talons. It flew close to the first (presumably female) falcon several times as it went back and forth, finally landing by the female and leaving the food with her. After a minute or so, the male then flew away, followed shortly by the female, who now had the food in her talons. What an amazing courtship display!
