Scott Meyer and I visited Yellow Medicine county this morning and found
shorebird (and waterfowl) migration to be in full swing.
At Miller Lake, 13 miles west of Clarkfield on MN 67, the following
shorebird species were present:
American Avocet (2)
Killdeer
Lesser Yellowlegs (15)
Hudsonian Godwit (5)
Marbled Godwit (1)
Dunlin (4)
Baird's Sandpiper
Pectoral Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Semipalmated Sandpiper
Long-billed Dowitcher (6)
Wilson's Phalarope (3)
A Peregrine Falcon flew over while we were present and stirred up the
shorebirds, it didn't stick around but continued flying north.
Good numbers of Wilson's Phalaropes were present at the Clarkfield sewage
ponds (36) and Canby sewage ponds (81). Canby held a flock of 40 Lesser
Yellowlegs as well.
