Thanks to directions from Linda Whyte & Laura Coble, not to leave out three ladies with one excellent sharp scope among them, I was able to take in the ruff this evening at the previously reported vicinity but a little short of the Eagan water tower--not so far down the eastward trail, where a creek wanders out to the main current, almost on top of where the Nelson's sharp-tailed sparrows were found in September 2012 for anyone who remembers that. For birders who like to linger with their life birds taking in all possible field marks, the long evening rays combined with the shortened but still considerable distance made it possible to savor the shining-wet color on the ruff, even some orange on the bill. Nothing could seem better on a Saturday night than waiting till near dusk in one spot, squinting through a less-than-perfect 50 power-or-so zoom as he flexed his wings exhibiting the snow white underwing and an idea of the white at the base of the tail, coming up along the edges of the rump. Impending stormy weather may change the conditions somewhat...
