I have seen a number of *Palm Warblers* and *Yellow-rumped warblers* hanging around the yard this week. Yesterday I had a pair of *American Redstarts* out by one of our garden ponds (we have two). Today I saw what I believe to have been a *Connecticut Warbler *by the other pond. When I first saw it without binoculars I was expecting to see an Orange-crowned Warbler. But once I had it in the glass I didn't see the features I expected, eye arcs with thin dark line, smudgy greenish streaking on a drab breast. Instead I saw a bird of larger size with a complete eye-ring, darkish head and neck with possible brownish tones, dull yellow under parts including yellow under tail coverts. No streaking or smudging on the breast or flanks. The bird was active and I was using binoculars through a window. I do this a lot and am comfortable that I was seeing real features and not artifacts of glass or dirt. I went outside to try to get a possible picture, but saw it fly off. I hung around to see if it might return and a *Black-throated Blue warbler* came to the pond and entertained me. I was unable to relocate the Connecticut. jerry pruett -- chance favors the prepared mind
