There have been two Pine Gosbeaks reportedly present in Sheldon, Iowa for probably a month now.
I was thinking I saw a report from Sioux Falls, SD as well; but it was probably Pierre. There have been several reports from Pierre and NE SD, but - although southerly - Cannon City is probably further south than these observations. I have been looking at for them down here without success. On Sunday, Erika and I photographed the Pine Grosbeak near Cannon Falls, Rice Co., first reported by Dave Bartkey on the Faribault/Northfield CBC and subsequently refound by Gene Bauer. According to eBird, this Pine Grosbeak may represent the southernmost record of the species east of the Rocky Mountains so far this winter: http://dantallmansbirdblog.blogspot.com -- Dan or Erika Tallman Northfield, Minnesota [email protected] http://dantallmansbirdblog.blogspot.com ".... the best shod travel with wet feet...Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes ....”—H.
