Hello all, As one of the eBird hotspot admins for Minnesota (along with ND and IA) I like to reach out now and then for input on anything I can do to assist people who would like to see changes made or clarification on hotspots.
I also would like to get some input on a few hotspot changes that I think could be made to a few locations. First, if you have some favorite areas to go birding and you use eBird, please take a moment to submit those areas as hotspots. Just follow these steps to submit your favorites birding sites: 1) Click My eBird 2) Click Manage "My Locations"on the side bar 3) Select the locations that you think are "hotspots" 4) Pull the drag down menu to "suggest as hotspots" 5) Click "submit" You will not lose any information or sightings and will help introduce new areas to other birders while helping to combine all the sighting in that hotspot for others to see and benefit from. Second, If you have any questions or comments to make on hotspots that already exist, please email me and I can probably assist you. Examples include: Moving, renaming, merging, etc..... Finally, I have a couple of hotspots (based on my recent visit to Saz-Zim) that I feel could use some changes. However, I know that this area is popular and I worrry these could have some unexpected consequences, so I would like some input from people in the area and others. 1) Renaming "Meadowlands Trunk Feeders" to "Sax-Zim Bog--Mary Lou's Feeders". It is labeled and Mary Lou's feeders on the map and I worry that having a different name for it will confuse people. 2) Renaming "Friends of Sax Zim Bog" to "Sax-Zim Bog--Friends of Sax-Zim Bog Visitor Center". Similar to above, this change is just to make it clearer. 3) Combing the Two Admiral Road feeding station hotspots into one. Both hotspots are within 10-15 yards of each other and refer to the same thing. No need for both and it just breaks the sightings up. There are a couple of other issues I would like to resolve, but I'll wait on that until I see the feedback on these changes. I'll likely go ahead and make these changes unless I get some feedback suggesting otherwise.
