Late this morning, a Belted Kingfisher was making its characteristic "rattle"
call over an area of open water where an open running stream empties into the
Minnesota River backwater lake. This location is about 1/2 mile east-southeast
of the Mound Springs Park entrance in Bloomington, Hennepin County. The trail
down to this location is somewhat steep and a bit icy. This morning between
Mound Springs Park and Old Cedar Avenue bridge, also saw 1 Bald Eagle in a
large cottonwood by the open water, 2 Pileated Woodpeckers, 1 Northern Flicker
calling about 1/4-3/8 mile west of the Old Cedar Avenue bridge, 3 Brown
Creepers, and 2 Tree Sparrows about 1/4 mile west of the Old Cedar Avenue
bridge.
