This is from the International Crane Fdn website (Baraboo WI). They have
been active in reintroduction of Whooping Cranes at Necedah and Horicon NWRs
and Chassohowitska (?) in FL. More than 20 WHCRs have been shot in the last
5 years. Last month two cranes from the new Louisiana flock were killed in
Texas.

The top story here is about applying the ESA in place of the Migratory Bird
Treaty Act to this crime. (click "read more" for more info) Earlier
stories also feature this shooting.

Every few years WHCRs from WI appear in MN. One day they might become more
common here.
