Just a quick note from Carver County today. Today was easily my best Greater
White-fronted Goose day in the county. A brief early morning wake-up at 1:30
today greeted me with what sounded like a large flock of Greater White-fronted
Geese flying outside my window in Chaska overhead. At Rapids Lake later with
some daylight, I counted 328 Greater White-fronted Geese in multiple flocks.
Most of these were flyovers with a flock of ~50 landing on Rapids Lake for
about 15-20 minutes before leaving when a Bald Eagle began harassing ducks on
the lake. Rapids Lake was generally free of ice this morning. Also seen at
Rapids Lake were 16 duck species(many arriving while I was present...Rapids
Lake was completely covered in very thin ice yesterday on a colder morning),
Snow Geese, and Tundra Swan. There were 55 species at Rapids Lake for the
morning.

Afterward I went to 150th St. south of Cologne and in the usual flooded
field(though not as much water as some springs) I counted around 1000 Greater
White-fronted Geese. Also present in this field were ~50 Snow Geese, 3 Ross's
Geese(white and blue phase), and 6 Snow/Ross's that I was not certain about.
Ducks were present as well, but I did not pay them much attention as there
seemed to be fewer here today than when I checked yesterday. Yesterday most
of these geese were not in this field.
