(Posted by John Richardson <[email protected]> via moumn.org) An estimated 2000+ strong flock of Bohemian Waxwing around Portman Park in the Lakeside neighborhood of Duluth this afternoon was observed and photographed. The flock simply picked up more numbers as it headed east through town briefly stopping to gorge on berries and them move on. I took one photo that Clinton Nienhaus painstakingly counted each individual (wow!). I could not fit all the birds in the 50mm frame, but in the frame was 1232 individual Bohemian Waxwings. One of the larger flocks in recent years to the best of my knowledge? Two Harbors, MN may be the next stop?
