The bald eagles have abandoned their long-standing nest along Highway 36 next
to Highway 61. The nest has gotten pretty precarious the last several years and
this year it looked like it could slide right out of the tree. So, the eagles
have moved and built a new nest on the south end of Keller Lake. It is visible
from highway 61 and also from the back side along Arcade. Once the leaves come
out, it will be a bit harder to see I am sure. There was an eagle on the nest
this morning.

There is a very nice article about these eagles in this week's Roseville
Review. A DNR employee and the Ramsey County biologist have been following
these eagles for a while. Apparently, one of the original pair died maybe last
year and so there was a new pair using the nest with not a lot of success.
(Likely one of the original pair with a new partner.) Both biologists believe
this is the same pair from last year who moved and built the new nest. The
eagles are not banded so it is impossible to know for sure but they are
territorial so it is likely the same pair. We saw the pair at times all winter
sitting in the original tree. (Yesterday one was sitting up there again.) It is
a good location with several lakes close by.

I hope they have nesting success this year!
