My husband and I were startled the other day to see one of our resident
red-shouldered hawks swoop in and take a red-winged blackbird off the
feeder. I've seen them eat snakes etc, but never birds. No doubt the
"sitting duck" blackbird at the feeder was just a good opportunity.
